Colorado Heating
Heating demands are highest between November and March. During peak winter months (December to February) outside temperatures in Denver, Colorado average between 17 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit, with the coldest wind-chill events and overnight drops seeing thermometers regularly register sub-zero readings.
According to a survey by the US Energy Information Administration, Colorado homes consume an average of 103 million British Thermal Units (BTUs) per year, which is 15% higher than the national average. Indeed, more than half of this consumption is during winter, considering that space heating accounts for 54% of Colorado households energy use. This is compared to the US national average of only 41%.
Approximately 75% of Colorado households heat their homes using natural gas, while another 20% use propane or electricity.
More than 60% of Colorado homes were constructed before 1989, while more than a fifth (20%) were constructed before 1969. Less than half of homes have programmable thermostats.
It goes without saying that many of the Colorado heating systems today are outdated and inefficient, costing home owners unnecessarily high energy bills due to wasted heat, old or malfunctioning equipment, or sometimes things as simple as degraded ductwork, just to name a few examples.
As an experienced, licensed and insured authority in furnaces, boilers, unit heaters, thermostats and ductwork, Denver Mechanical Contracting is ready to serve your energy optimization needs.
